Fuels burn in oxygen and release heat.
  • Fuels are Hydrocarbons i.e. they are made of the elements hydrogen and carbon.
  • Fossil fuels were created over millions of years from decayed plants and animals.
  • When fuels burn they release Carbon Dioxide and Water.
  • Carbon Dioxide is a Greenhouse Gas which causes Global Warming.
  • Some fuels give off Sulfur Dioxide when they burn this can cause Acid Rain.
  • Save our Planet -Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, plant trees use recyclable energy.

After the Electricity definitions test we started on Biology Definitions from Chapter 1 Living Things

The 7 characteristics of Living things are:
  1. Movement
  2. Respiration (the release of energy in cells)
  3. Sense (Response)
  4. Growth
  5. Reproduction
  6. Excretion (getting rid of waste produced in the body)
  7. Nutrition

Watched a video and answered questions on The Atom (see 27 September blog).

The Periodic Table was discussed. Groups of elements have similar properties.
  • Group 1 - Alkali Metals (see video)
  • Group 2 - Alkaline Earth Metals
  • Group 7 - Halogens
  • Group 8 (or 0) - Nobel Gases
